Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer will support production operations by optimizing manufacturing processes, maintaining critical equipment, and ensuring accurate and efficient use of the company’s MRP system. This role will be working in the medical device industry and is fully on‑site in Billerica, MA. The engineer will blend hands‑on technical work with data‑driven planning and continuous improvement, while also updating procedures, initiating engineering changes, and collaborating across departments to drive quality, throughput, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Process Engineering

• Develop, optimize, and document manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.

• Analyze production workflows and identify opportunities for waste reduction and process improvement.

• Create and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process documentation.

MRP / Production Systems

• Utilize the MRP system to manage bills of materials (BOMs), routings, work orders, and material planning.

• Ensure data accuracy within the MRP system to support scheduling, capacity planning, and inventory control.

• Collaborate with Supply Chain and Production Control to resolve material shortages, planning discrepancies, and system‑related issues.

Equipment Maintenance & Support

• Own and maintain production equipment, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and coordination of repairs.

• Implement equipment upgrades and improvements to enhance reliability and performance.

• Work with vendors and service providers as needed for specialized equipment support.

Engineering Change Management

• Initiate, document, and execute engineering change orders (ECOs) in accordance with company procedures.

• Update BOMs, drawings, specifications, and process documentation to reflect approved changes.

• Communicate changes effectively to production, quality, and supply chain teams.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Quality Engineering to address nonconformances, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including prototype builds and production readiness.

• Provide technical support to production teams and train operators on new processes or equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

1 to 6 years of experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

Working in a medical device environment is highly desirable.

Hands‑on experience with MRP/ERP systems, including Rootstock or similar platforms.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience supporting or maintaining production equipment.

• Familiarity with engineering change processes and documentation control.

• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Rootstock MRP is a strong plus.

Having experience working in the medical device industry is a plus.

• Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.

CAD proficiency in SolidWorks.

• Experience with automation, fixtures, or tooling design.

• Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
